(Production Notes)
I sell four types of Fractal Video Art slide shows. They are VHS, S-VHS, DVD, and PC CD-ROM. Video tapes are recorded in real-time directly from my computer. This assures the highest quality per recording. It also means each recording has a unique arrangement of images. DVDs are LightScribe DVD-R type for the best compatibility with players across the globe. They are recorded in NTSC format. Copyrights are never transfered to anyone who buys a copy of my fractals regardless of the form those fractals may be in.
PC CD-ROM recordings are non-linear. These are self-randomizing each time they are played. They can even be scrambled while they are playing. Simply roll the scroll wheel forward or backward to re-arrange them. Doing this may cause the recording to terminate prematurely. PC CD-ROM versions have free looping options. This makes them ideal for organizations who want to entertain without the need to change titles. PC CD-ROM recordings have native resolutions ranging from 1024 by 768 to 2048 by 1536. Software Video Art are Windows 95 - Vista compatible.
All recordings have a 4 by 3 aspect ratio. Many High Definition screens allow their users to set an auto-sensing mode to display 4:3 without distortion. Others may require users to set this manually. The interval rate determines how long each fractal can be seen on-screen. None of my Fractal Video Art have soundtracks. They are suitable for all genres of music.
Deep Zooming Animations:
I've come up with a dozen animated sequences for those who love deep zooming fractals. The animations can be re-arranged, played individually, run back-to-back, or looped for continuous playback. These are ideal for parties, art shows, or other social functions where an eye catching performance is desired. To schedule a performance please contact me. My animations do not feature soundtracks. Performance fees are as follows:
Budget Rate = $20.00 per hour plus travel and accomodation expenses (where applicable.) This covers my notebook and my time. The customer supplies their own DLP or LCD projector and projector screen. Projectors must have a native resolution of 1024 by 768 or higher, must be equipped with standard PC VGA (RGB) type connector, and be capable of displaying 24-bit or better color depth.
My fractals are ideal for:
*Aircraft In-Flight Entertainment, *Airports, *Art Galleries, *Bars, *Book Stores, *Clubs, *Concerts, *Conventions, *Dances, *Day Cares, *Fund Raisers, Gifts, *Gyms, *Hotels, *Indoor & Outdoor Projections, *Ladies' Fitness Centers, *Libraries / Media Rooms / Children's Section, *Medical Offices, *Offices, *Parties, *Pre-School, *Physical Therapy / Exercise, *Raves, Relaxation, *Salons, *Schools, *Spas, *Theatres, *Trade Shows, *Visual / Sensory Stimulation for Developmentally Disabled Persons, *Waiting Rooms, etc. * denotes use of my product for commercial uses requires license agreements.
Fractals can be soothing, inspiring, lively. How they are perceived is largely dependent on the person looking at them, the environment where the fractal is viewed, and the music (if any) that is being played. Each person may have an experience that differs from someone who is sitting inches away. Truly these are like clouds. A unique experience awaits to be discovered. They are ideal for "ice breakers". Shy people who want to be part of a conversation often have difficulty getting started. When you are among a group who are possibly seeing my fractals for the first time it is easier to be part of a conversation that discusses them. Spas and salons can use them to lighten the moods of their clients. Daycares and schools could use them to turn young minds onto the awesome beauty of math. Too often young people do not think math and science has any relation to their personal life. Fractals have terrific potency for persons seeking to widen their perspective by actually working with the math that produces these beautiful images. Students can also learn to create their own fractals, possibly leading to Fractal Clubs. Students may have already seen programming on PBS about fractal art. Public Broadcasting Systems could show new fractals with a greater variety of shapes.
VHS and S-VHS Videos: (at 20 second intervals)
S-VHS has near DVD picture quality. S-VHS tapes must be played from a Super VHS player.
VHS 120 minutes 360 fractals $10.00 each
VHS 160 minutes 480 fractals $15.00 each
S-VHS 120 minutes 360 fractals $15.00 each
DVD Videos - Quick Edition: (at 2 second intervals)
$20.00 each
These discs are from the Trippy Fractals series where 12,039 "Trippy Hippy" themed fractals are used to make animated slide shows. I use LightScribe to laser etch the DVDs with a brief message and/or the customer's name onto the DVD. Each Quick Edition DVD features hundreds of fractals optimized for your "standard definition" television. Each DVD features forty-four cool transitions. Combo discs are titles that contain more than one volume. The playing time for each DVD is shown as an estimate. Estimates may be a few minutes shorter or longer than shown.
Persons or organizations seeking to re-sell these with their own brand in mind should contact me about licensing arrangements. See the Site Map and the Business link for more details. Customers who wish to have personal messages or ads included within their videos can do so at additional cost. It takes an estimated 3 hours to re-compile a DVD to include such elements. My hourly rate of $20.00 would then apply. A DVD with message(s) and/or ad(s) inside would be $60.00 for the first title.
There are nine Trippy Fractal DVDs:
Volume 001 (single disc) 56 minutes
Volume 002 & 003 (combo disc) 70 minutes
Volume 004 & 005 (combo disc) 66 minutes
Volume 006 & 007 (combo disc) 52 minutes
Volume 008 & 009 (combo disc) 44 minutes
Volume 010 (single disc) 54 minutes
Volume 011 (single disc) 66 minutes
Volume 012 (single disc) 69 minutes
Volume 013, Plasma Clouds, and Plasma Fractals (combo disc) 62 minutes

I have two kinds of PC Video Art you can buy. There are looping and non-looping versions. Looping Video Art will run until they are terminated by someone. Their images are perpetually self-randomizing. When matched with free advertising for businesses this is a powerful method to entertain and inform your customers of specials or every day deals you have running. This option is best for businesses or persons who do not want to reset the program when it has terminated. You simply choose the one you want to play, run that program, and walk away. At the end of the day you can switch off the program and your PC.
A non-looping title will run until all of its fractals has been shown. The last image will then remain on screen until the program is exited. The advantage of this version is the images do not repeat themselves during their playing session. You will see each image (or advertisement) once per playback session.
In either of the two versions you can press the left or right arrow keys to step back (left arrow) or step forward (right arrow) one image each time an arrow key is pressed.
If you are a club owner who wishes to have quick flashing patterns I can record at sub-millisecond intervals. Near the bottom of the page is a list of test files and their estimated playing times.
Video Art for Windows PC
Software Videos retain the full brilliance, color accuracy, and fine detail of the original fractals. They can be enjoyed directly from your IBM class PC CD-ROM / DVD-ROM drive. Fractals are generally 1024 x 768 (standard XGA resolution.) If you are using a newer wide screen display my fractals could look pixelated. If it does look pixelated your display is distorting my fractals so they will fit its entire screen. To resolve this please try switching to a 4:3 aspect ratio. You can then flip between the two modes to determine which version you like. Some HDTVs will adapt automatically to the video being fed to it. Some require the user to make those adjustments through their menu system. Do yourself a favor and read your manual first. Then try one of the test files at the top of the page.
Each title is preset to randomly change fractals once every one to thirty seconds. This interval rate can be set by the customer prior to the recording of the video. After the recording is made the user cannot change their interval rate. To exit the program press the ESCape key, up or down arrow key once. Each time the program is played it generates a new sequence of images. Video Art CD-ROMs feature the customer's name and my copyright notice on the disc's label and case inserts. Along the bottom edge of each fractal is my copyright notice.
**A FREE single line message may be included on the disc's label. This can be used to personalize for yourself, a friend, a gift, etc.
**Customers who wish to further enhance their video can have a single graphic / text image inserted. Your graphic / text image will appear randomly once per playback session (for non-looping titles.) If you have opted for a looping title your inserted graphic / text will appear at random points during playbak until the ESCape key is pressed. This creates a cool way to run promotions from a self-looping, perpetually randomizing video. The link provided at the top of this page shows an insert I made for a friend's holiday present. Plasma clouds make excellent backgrounds for this type of insert. Their vivid colors aren't too distracting. Offensive graphics and/or text submitted by customers may be refused at my discretion. Regardless of the format my fractals are recorded to they can be enjoyed with virtually any genre of music. Or you can watch them without music. They do not feature soundtracks. Fractal art can be enjoyed by virtually any person.
Tempted but cannot justify an expensive computer purchase? No problem. Take a look at the great selection of new and used PCs at Ginstar. I have been buying my computers from them since 1994. They have technical repair services on par with (if not better than) Geek Squad. You'll pay a mere fraction what other computer companies charge. Now just because it is a used PC does not mean it is an ugly or beat up one. If you're going with a new computer you can choose from their own selection of snazzy cases or have them order custom PC cases for you. Why settle for a beige box when your PC can be art itself? Not sure where to get cool artsy cases? Not to worry. I will have a page up that handles that too.
Computer Requirements & Other Suggestions:
The slowest computer I have to test with is a Pentium 200 w/MMX, 128 MBs RAM, 1024 by 768 24-bit video resolution (standard XGA), running windows ME. I ran test files from the CD-ROM drive, hard drive, and parallel port attached Zip 100. In each instance the videos performed flawlessly. My Video Art works on Windows 95 - Vista.
Video Art recorded in the sub-millisecond range (see bottom of page for examples) requires a 1.2GHz or faster PC. It is suggested that computer and HDTV displays have a response time of 2ms to 5ms for smoother playback. For the best performance copy sub-millisecond titles to your hard drive. You can turn your HDTV into a video art display. Then you can enjoy my fractal art at your leisure as it was meant to be seen. To do this your HDTV should have one of the following types of video connectors:
1) VGA (Video Graphics Array)
2) DVI (Digital Video Interface)
3) HDMI (High Definition Media Interface)
VGA can be plugged directly into any PC's video port. The other two options require some form of adapter cable or plug-in gizmo. Adapters and cables can be bought from many computer retail centers or off the InterNet. Your HDTV should be capable of showing computer graphics at a resolution of 1024 by 768 or 1280 by 1024. Since both of these video resolutions fall below 1920 by 1080P you should have no problem running volumes 1 - 14. Volumes 15 and above require a minimum video resolution of 1280 by 1024. I am in the process of creating new works that require 2048 by 1536 video resolution.
Free Looping is available on titles with 1,001 or more images. Free insertion of a single text message and/or one logo into titles with 1,001 or more images. Please visit the General Use page to see the different volumes. The Site map link above provides easy access to that page.
